Ethics Consulting

You have questions, we have answers. We provide attorneys with an objective perspective and peace of mind when it comes to resolving their ethics questions. Attorneys ask us about their obligations under the Rules of Professional Conduct as it relates to:

Fee Agreements
Trust Account Books & Records
Confidentiality
Attorney-Client Privilege
Conflicts of Interest
Discovery Disputes
Unauthorized Practice of Law (UPL) and Multijurisdictional Practice
Potential Clients
Supervising staff and other lawyers
Terminating Representation
Communicating with others
Lateral attorney hires

Our consults are usually over the phone, with any follow-up occurring by phone or by e-mail. We are also available to meet in person to discuss more complex matters.

For new clients, we do not charge for the first 15 minutes of a consultation. If your initial consult exceeds 15 minutes, ordinarily we will begin to charge our hourly rate for the time that elapses after those first 15 minutes. We do not charge new clients a minimum fee for our consultation—you pay for the time that you use (except for those first 15 minutes, of course).

For existing and returning clients, we will ordinarily bill for our time at our hourly rate, unless we have made another arrangement with you. We do not charge existing and returning clients a minimum fee for consultations—you pay for the time that you use.

Ethics CLEs

We regularly give presentations on the law of lawyering and legal ethics. We are happy to tailor an ethics CLE and presentation to the needs of your law firm or corporate legal department. We also give CLE presentations to various bar organizations and non-profits.
